The hospital just seemed like an easier route. And most of the staff were great. (One nurse during my first birth did something we did not appreciate, but all the other staff were wonderful!) Great experience.

We chose to have a hospital birth with a Midwife. I think it was the best option for us, but I completely understand why some would want to have a homebirth. I would have loved to come home after the 3 hours in the hospital, but we needed to stay to make sure I was ok (baby was fine!!). Next time I will do hospital again, but hope for a quick home time!!

with all the complications with the first..in ended in a hospital via er section...needless to say I dont think they would have allowed me to have the other 2 via section at home :D so they were hospital babies as well!

Having a baby is messy (obviously). When sheets, beds, garments etc. get stained with blood and other "fluids", I don't have to clean it up. The hospital is also kept VERY clean and disinfected - not so sure about how disinfected my house is! I also agree with everyone who talks about the risk of complications. They have everything they need right there if a serious problem arises. The care I received at the hospital for all 4 of my children was exceptional (I live in a small town and that seems to be the difference from a big city hospital). I could stay up to 3 days if I wanted to - they didn't rush me to get out - and I had my own quiet room every time. I was pampered!

I believe in hospitals and think that having your baby at home is a brave but also risky choice. One of my friends wanted to give birth at home "to avoid unnecessary interventions" - sometimes expecting mothers seem to forget that a safe delivery for child and mother is more important than self-realization of "natural birth". When I had my first child, I overheard a conversation between a new mother and her midwife. The mother asked why she had had a C-section, "I could have pushed for another hour". The midwife replied, "then you would have pushed out a dead baby." Maybe not the most diplomatic way to explain her choice, but she made her point very clear. Safety for child and mother over birth plans that prove not to be realistic.

Having a BABY in General is a risky Choice AND while there are MANY who are like me and wanted to avoid and UNNECESSARY INTERVENTIONS. Nowhere do we do this without thinking of our and our baby's safety.
I never wanted medicatons and with my first daughter 4 years ago I went in knowing what I wanted and the things that could happen that would change my opinions on a natural birth.
My water broke and no contractions started after 18 hours. So I needed intervention to start to avoid infection to my child. When Pitocin was started that was the worst experience in my life. I went from 0-8cm in 1 hour and THEY WERE intense. I got the epidural. YES there were complications with it. MY daugthers heartreat IMMIDEATLY DROPPED. and more monetering hapened as there were concerened for her.
Then with my second daughter my only hope was to avoid Pitocin. AND we did. COntractions started 8 days overdue and I had the natural birth I wanted at the hospital.
THEN 7 weeks ago I got the ultimate birth I wanted, a drug free home birth. AND everything was considered. THe endless talks with my midwives to know when the last point of staying at home would be. KNOWING that even though I lived 5 minutes away from the hospital, we would still need to wait for an ambulance in emergnecies. HOW it works out. BECAUSE if a c-section was needed. It takes 30 min to prep the room. So If it was needed We would need to wait for the ambulance, and delivered to hospital. AND then basically upon arrival the operation room would be ready. Where as if in the hospital you would be there waiting with nothing to do
I truly resent you comment of "Safety for child and mother over birth plans that prove not to be realistic" hurtful. Never would I stick to my birthplan if I knew the turnout would not be a healthy mother or baby. and i'm certain 99% of women would agree with this. Its no different than the moms who's birth plan is the MOMENT they walk on Hospital grounds to get their Epidural. Because some get it without knowing the effects to mother and child.

We had both at the hospital, the second was way to high risk to have it any other way. I think hospital is where I feel the best having mine little ones.

We opted on having baby #1 at the hospital. There were too many unknows and I knew that if something happened our baby would have immediate attention.
