I recently purchased a Catbird Baby Pikkolo Carrier and it is now my all time favorite option for Thomas. We got a Baby Bjorn as a gift which we used when he was small and I have a Mobile Mommy Sling (which we have used a lot) but now that Thomas is 8 months and moves a lot I found he could squirm in the sling so I'd have to keep adjusting it -- whereas the Catbird Pikkolo is light but doesn't need adjusting once it is on, and if it does the buckles are easy to manage. Also the sling slips against certain fabrics like leather, so I couldn't always wear it over a coat which made in & out of the car for errands tricky. I really recommend checking out EvyMama on Jane St in Bloor West Village to try carriers - they have a great selection & do walks twice a week where you can test on of their samples with your baby. A great idea!

The Bondolino is the best carrier for us!! My husband and I both love it. Since birth, we've been wearing our baby in everything from wraps, to slings, to carriers. Our stash just keeps growing as our baby grows and our needs change.
www.thebabywearer.com is a great site for everything related to babywearing...be forewarned - the For Sale or Trade is highly addictive!! :)
Also, do some research about the Baby Bjorn before buying - I had no idea that it could hurt a baby's spine development since the Bjorn has babies hanging instead of sitting with their bums lower than their knees. Just something to consider.

Well of course my vote is for slings! But really, a non-padded adjustable ring sling is THE most versatile option out there. Newborn through to 35 lbs and 7 different carring positions. Breastfeeding is a dream and the whole thing scrunches into nothing when your not using it.
Because you can tighten the fabric independantly it is always a custom fit...perfect for popping in a kid with a bulky snowsuit. I was still carrying my first when I was preggers with number two, got me through more then a couple of temper tantrums in the grocery store :)
Tip: If you think your little one is too low in an adjustable sling, start with the fabric raised at a higher point (around your belly button) before you place them inside. But most important, if you or your little one get frustrated WALK AWAY...then come back later and try again :)
Happy Babywearing!

right from birth i used a wrap with both my babies and they feel like they're still in mummy's tummy and i can still like I'm pregnant:)
as they get a little bigger and carrying the carseat is heavy I like the sling for quick ins and outs

I never used any type of carrier for my oldest but with Haillie, once she started to get a little bit sturdier (she was 9lbs @ birth) ... we got a hip hugger to carry her around in and OMG was it amazing! I saved it to use again with this baby!

Who makes the hip hugger?? Or is that it's name. Sounds interesting. Where'd you get it?
Sat, 11/08/2008 - 22:47 — callista
Its put out by Playtex..and i guess the real name for it lol is the Hip Hammock....instead of going in front of you or behind you it goes on your side..it was a bit akward the first few times we used it but soon it was so useful!!

has anyone tried the Lascal Carrier? I am debating between the Lascal and the Baby bjorn.

I tried it on in the store. I really liked it but just couldn't afford it. I loved the bamboo material and it was super comfy. I think it is the better one to the baby bjorn if you can afford it.

I've read Attachment Parenting. I've gone to a store in Ottawa that just sells slings and maternity wear in Ottawa to try some slings out. I've used a cotton sling for a while and a jersey fabric wrap and have had problems. Basically, Bruno is big. He was 10.5 lbs at birth, and it took forever for my back to feel OK enough just to walk a block after he was born, so I held and walked with him as much as possible, but would sit down and stop frequently because of pain. He's 10 months old now, 31 inches tall, and almost 30 pounds. I carry him for short periods in my arms. The sling I bought is now too small. If I put him in the wrap, I put him in as high up as possible, and after about 15 minutes he's down around my stomach. (I get help from my husband putting it on, as tightly as possible.)
I'll keep trying, though, as I think that, even if I can only do it a little, or imperfectly, the benefits are worth it. Does anyone know of a carrier that would be better for a big baby. It would be fab to have one that more evenly distributed his weight.

I love the Ergo and it can carry up to 40 pounds!! I like the trekker also but found the straps a bit bulky although well padded.

The Baby Trekker is by far the best baby carrier for bigger babies (works really well for tiny ones too). There is amazing support for your back so you will be able to wear your son longer.

My Baby Trekker is my FAVOURITE carrier.
My daughter is 20lbs and she LOVES getting into it. Its great to use when running into the grocery store or for short hikes.

I love my Ergo carrier. It is soo supportive. You can acutally wear an older baby in it quite comfortably. It also has the versatility to wear front, hip and back. I like it because it is different in that the baby sits in it rather than dangles like the traditional carrier. It's somewhat similar to a Mei Tai. I am new to slings and I am learning more so I'll have to get back to you on that one!

I could not live without it. I LOVE my sling. I did not have it for my first child but would tell everyone to have it from now on. They are great.

I loved my sweatpea wrap. It was very snug for Rebecca and she loved that, and it didn't hurt my shoulders. It was perfect for saslababies.

I loved our Pippalily sling, it came in so handy when I wanted to get dinner started before my husband got home or when we were on an outing and he wanted to see things or just fall asleep.
