We are trying to convince my mom-in-law to retire early so that she can take care of Ella.

My husband picks up our son from the sitter's around noon so he spends most of the day with our son. I don't get home until 630pm. I'm lucky my hubby is a good father/husband. I also lucked out that my neighbour is our sitter :)

It works out well when you can trust your neighbours.

We are doing a combination of care this year.
My mom is taking care of dd 2 days a week and she has a nanny 2 days a week. I am with her on the 5th day!
The daycare situation is crazy in Victoria (as it is everywhere I'm sure). We were lucky enough to have a friend with a live in nanny that could take another child.
I think our system is going to work out great!

I am a new mom with a five month old and no maternity leave. I do have the option to do supply work which will help me out greatly. We are just going to live as cheaply as possible for awhile....but i can see myself going back for some more work too. I know some friends that do home daycare and are excellent people that i would totally trust my wee one with.

It is really funny that there aren't any votes for stay a home Dad's. I love my husband and I know he would take good care of our son if he were to stay home but I am in such a routine with Jack and I like things the way they are. I can't even imagine the things they would get themselves into in a whole day alone!

I would love to stay at home, but it just isn't feasible, so my daughter is in daycare.
I think that if I could stay home, I would still want her in something outside of the house a few times a week for socializing purposes.

I myself am a SAHM and I recently put my 17 month old daughter in daycare two mornings a week for just that reason. It's really been good for both of us. She loves the activities, having other kids to play with and it's really helping her confidence with self feeding and her language skills are growing in leaps and bounds. She can even tell you her name now when asked! As for myself I'm able to go to appointments, get housework done and have time to do a few fun and relaxing things for myself. I also feel good about it because I know this will help prepare her for school eventually. My Mother never had me in anything outside our home previous to kindergarden and I still remember my first day. I cried so hard she finally had to take me home! LOL!

This is true both for the baby and the parents. They need a social life too!!!

I would love to stay home forever with them but that is just not going to happen. My first choice is always daycare center. Especially when they are not able to talk and tell you what is happening in their day.

If I could stay at home, or even afford to work part time from home, I would do it. My second choice would be a nanny.

I would like to try to do some kind of work at home to bring in a little extra cash but I don't know if I have the time. My days are booked for my son.

You could try working part time if you have someone to look after your son. Like your parents or in -laws.

Interesting to see that no votes are in favour of leaving junior with stay-at-home-dads.
I come from a working away from home culture, 82 % of women work outside the home in Denmark so daycare is my preferred choice. Also after having seen nannies and home daycare providers in action I believe even more in professional daycare.

lol I think my husband would go nuts if he was a SAHD! I'm a SAHM for now but I am going to be picking up some hours when DH isn't working...so he will get a taste of staying home and caring for the kids without me being a phone call and 5min trip away if he needs me.
Any other time we need a sitter though his parents or sister watch our boys, his sister is a teacher so she helps DS1 with his homework when he is over there and helps him with things he's behind on.

I think my husband would loose his mind...it's one thing to take care of the baby all day but it's another to get all the house work and cooking done too!

My Husband would loose his mind. He is great with Ella, but he goes crazy if he isn't working.
