When I was a new parent, there was no need for a balance. The women stayed home to watch the children as the men went out to work. Now a day's, life is much more stressful and demanding. There is no difference in the expectations of man and woman when it comes to supporting the family financially. We have helped my daughter find a balance in her life. She is a hard working mom of 2 girls and runs her own business on the side. Her husband also has a full-time job and helps with the business they started. They are out early and home late so as "grandparents" who lead much easier and tranquil lives, help out as much as possible. We take the children to preschool, pick them up and do what we can so that when their parents get home, they can spend some quality time with them. I really can't imagine what their lives would be like without assistance. With the strong personalities they both have, I know they would have found a balance via another solution.
For now, we are thrilled to help and spend as much time as we do with out grandchildren.
